Seattle Torrent Key To Team USA Olympic Gold

While Megan Keller of the Boston Fleet scored the Golden Goal in overtime for Team USA against Canada on Thursday in Italy, it was a group of Seattle Torrent from the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) who led the way for the Americans.

None other than Hilary Knight, team captain for both Seattle and the American national team, scored the 1-1 tying goal in the closing moments to force sudden death OT.

Knight became the all-time leading scorer for American women at the Olympics with a six point performance in Italy, giving her 35 points in 29 career games. She leads with 15 goals all-time as well.

Torrent forward Hannah Bilka led the way for the Seattle contingent with seven points (4G, 3A) over the seven game tournament stretch. Alex Carpenter matched her teammate Knight with an identical stat line for the Games, with three goals and three assists.

Defense player Cayla Barnes chipped in a goal along the way from the blueline.

Seattle forward Julia Gosling earned a silver medal and five points for Team Canada while Seattle defense woman Aneta Tejralová played in five games for Czechia without recording a point.

The Torrent resume action in the PWHL on February 27th at Climate Pledge Arena against the Toronto Sceptres.
