Canucks Surprise Groom
Vancouver reporters were surprised to learn Monday morning at the annual Jake Milford Charity Golf Tournament that Canucks center Elias Pettersson got married this summer in Sweden.
“It was a highlight, best day of my life, so it was good,” Petey said of tying the knot with American model Katelyn Byrd, who has since added Pettersson to her name. Elias didn’t openly bring up his wedding in reference to summer highlights until pressed a wee bit by Sportsnet’s Iain MacIntyre.
Swedish newspaper Expressen tried to pinpoint the date with a story in late August, suggesting the marriage took place in July during Sweden’s Midsummer holiday weekend, while confirming their union via Swedish tax records.
True to form, apparently it was a very private affair.
The paper had previously reported Byrd sitting with Pettersson’s mother at the Four Nation’s Cup tournament in February.

The wedding occurred in the middle of a summer of hard work for Pettersson, who told Swedish reporters at that country’s Olympic Orientation camp that he was ready to rebound from a poor 2024-’25 season.
“I haven’t thought about it, but for myself it’s revenge,” he told them. “I’m not happy with last season. I’m trying to lead by example. But I know that I can become a better leader, in that aspect. I’m trying my best, but also trying to get better.”
Already a bit lean offensively, the Canucks will need everything they can out of Pettersson. Maybe being extra happy-at-home will mean more productivity on the ice.
His preseason profile comes next.
