We all thought he was gone via free agency, then at the last minute forward Brock Boeser re-signed with the Vancouver Canucks on July 1st.
The former 40-goal scorer from two years ago, entering his ninth full season with the club, inked a seven-year deal worth $7.25-million per season.
“I’m super excited to be back,” he said Monday morning at the annual Jake Milford Charity Golf Tournament. “Any time we get to this tournament we know the season is just around the corner. I’ve been back for a little bit now and I’m ready to go.”
Vancouver’s top center Elias Pettersson said he actually texted Boeser a ‘thank you’ after the winger signed his new deal.
“He’s been here all my years when I’ve been here and he’s one of my closest guys on the team,” Petey said, “so it meant, it was really good and I was happy to see him sign here.”
Two-thirds of the old ‘Lotto Line’, 649, sans the 9 of J.T. Miller, will likely be skating together again when the season starts. Boeser is coming off a campaign that saw him tally 25 goals and 25 assists.
“Our offence from last season wasn’t that good, so obviously we’ve got to be better,” Boeser said. “I think that’s a key focus, but I think that we’ve just gotta make sure that we’re moving on from last season and focusing on this season and making sure it’s a fresh start.”
That start includes a new Canucks head coach in Adam Foote. More on him and Petey’s new beginning in just a bit.
