Rangers 6, Canucks 2
It was close for awhile, but the 3rd period belonged exclusively to the home team New York Rangers as they handed the Vancouver Canucks their fourth straight loss.
The Blueshirts were up just 3-2 when the final stanza began.
The BC Boys have been outscored 17 to 5 through the first three games of their six-game road trip.
Former Seattle Kraken forward Tye Kartye scored twice in this one, as did his fellow left winger Will Cuylle. It was the first two goals of the season for each of them. Kartye was recently promoted to the Rangers 2nd line. His linemate, former Canucks centre J.T. Miller, had an assist on both of Kartye’s goals.
Vancouver goalie Kevin Lankinen was the victim in this one, giving up six goals on 25 shots. Let’s just say it’s been an inauspicious start to the season for the 31-year-old from Finland. Through six appearances his goals against average is 6.88 and his save percentage is .786.
Obviously it’s not all on the goalie. The Canucks lack talent and chemistry.
At the other end, 24-year-old netminder Dylan Garand, one of two Rangers goalies now filling in the for injured number-one Igor Shesterkin, made 19 saves for his second win of the season. The other back-up being former Vancouver prospect Spencer Martin, who played 32 NHL games for the club early this decade.
Elias Pettersson, the forward “Petey”, tallied a shorthanded goal for the visitors.
Vancouver is 2-and-5 on the season and plays at the New York Islanders on Tuesday.
