Canucks, Hughes and Garland

Canucks Hughes, Garland To US Olympic Camp

Two Canucks will head to Plymouth, Michigan next week for the two-day Team USA Men’s Olympic Orientation Camp. Quinn Hughes, no surprise, Conor Garland, a bit of a surprise, on a list announced by USA Hockey on Tuesday morning.

While Hughes has been a Team USA lock for awhile and was already one of six players named to the 2026 Olympic team in mid-June, Garland has played himself into consideration, particularly after helping the Americans win this past spring’s World Championship for the first time in 92 years.

The feisty little winger also finished tied for 2nd in scoring on the Canucks last season with 50 points, the same total as Brock Boeser, and second to Hughes’s 76.

Boeser was not an invite.

Also not on the list, a man who would have been a lock two seasons ago prior to suffering chronic injuries, Vancouver goalie Thatcher Demko. He’s essentially been replaced on the four-man compilation by Seattle Kraken netminder Joey Daccord. The other three American goalies are no surprise: Connor Hellebuyck, Jake Oettinger, and Jeremy Swayman.

Former Canucks center J.T. Miller will also be part of the proceedings.

There were no Canucks invited to Hockey Canada’s Olympic camp that will take place on the same dates in Calgary. However, young NHL stars Connor Bedard of the Chicago Blackhawks and Macklin Celebrini of the San Jose Sharks, both North Vancouver natives, will be in attendance.
