Goalie Joey Daccord achieved two distinctions after backstopping the Seattle Kraken to a 5-3 win in Washington on Sunday. One came after the horn, when teammates awarded him the Jofa helmet (image above) as player of the game.
The other distinction came at 16:47 of the 1st period. That’s when Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin scored for the 930th time, adding to his total as the NHL’s greatest-ever goal scorer. It was the first time the Great 8 had pierced Daccord, who had turned away all 14 of his previous shots over four meetings between Seattle and Washington.

Kraken Goalie Joins Illustrious List
Daccord became the 190th career goalie victim of Ovechkin in his 1,578-game career, all with the Capitals. He announced in September that this would be his 22nd and final season.
Joey can take comfort in the Hall of Fame netminding company he’s keeping, including Roberto Luongo, Ed Belfour, Martin Brodeur, Henrik Lundqvist, and Dominik Hasek.
Marc-Andre Fleury, who’ll soon join those immortals in the Hall, “leads” the list with 28 goals allowed. Pascal Leclaire of the Columbus Blue Jackets gave up the first and second goals of Ovechkin’s career on Oct. 5, 2005.
The good folks at RMNB.com (named for Ovechhkin’s onetime assertion that “Russian Machine Never Breaks”) compiled this impressive listing of the nearly 200 netminders in the “Ovi Goal Club.”
