It wasn’t as ugly as the first three games on the Canucks six-game road trip when they were outscored a composite 17-5, but it still goes down as a loss, 3-2 to the New York Islanders on Tuesday night.
It’s Vancouver’s fifth straight loss overall dating back to the 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Vegas Golden Knights at Rogers Arena on October 4th. Of the five NHL teams that have played eight games already, the Canucks have the 2nd fewest points, four, with their former head coach Rick Tocchet and the Philadelphia Flyers the only club worse off with three.
The Flyers lost at home in a shoot-out to the Seattle Kraken 3-2 on Tuesday. Vancouver’s neighbours to the south are the surprise team in the NHL thus far, having won the first three games on their five-game roadie.
After falling behind two nothing in the first period on Long Island, the Canucks battled back in the 2nd period to tie the game on goals by Max Sasson at even strength and Brock Boeser on the power play.
The deciding goal came from New York’s Kyle Palmieri, his second of the night, at 5:38 of the 3rd period.
Vancouver’s road trip continues with games against the Florida Panthers on Thursday night and the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday afternoon.
