The Firebirds, the Seattle Kraken’s American Hockey League (AHL) farm team in Coachella Valley, announced its upcoming events schedule on Monday.
It appears robust to say the least.
As much as we’ve been prone to criticize the Kraken at the NHL level, mainly due to a much larger microscope, it’s tough to find much fault with the top affiliate in California. On the ice in its first four seasons the club has been to the Calder Cup Finals twice, and last year, as the youngest team in the AHL, surprised everyone with a run to the Pacific Division finals.
Off the ice, the team is ready to celebrate the launch of season five.
“Reaching our fifth season is worth celebrating, and our fans are the reason we’ve gotten here,” John Page, Firebirds Senior Vice President said in a release. “Season five is about celebrating everything we’ve built together over the last four years while creating even more opportunities for fans to make memories with family and friends.”
The home opener hits on Friday, October 2nd against the Ontario Reign, farm team of the LA Kings. The event list includes Kids Night, Dia de los Muertos (look it up), and Kraken Night.

The Kraken home opener is Sunday, October 4th after a pair of road games, one against the Calgary Flames on the 1st and the other in Edmonton against the Oilers on the 3rd. Yep, nothing like your home opener being the third game in four nights.
