2026 Seattle Kraken draft pick Casey Mutryn will be reuniting with older brother Teddy on ice later this month. The Mutryn boys will skate for Team USA at the World Junior Summer Showcase, July 26-Aug. 1 in Windsor, Ontario. (More about the tournament here.)
“It was awesome,” Teddy Mutryn said about Casey being Seattle’s 2nd round choice. “I was so happy for him. Obviously, we’ve grown up together our whole lives playing hockey, competing against each other. But I’m his No. 1 fan, maybe besides my parents. So happy, so proud of him.”

Teddy Mutryn was a 3rd round pick of the San Jose Sharks in 2025. “Case, he’s feisty, that’s for sure. Maybe I got the best of him when we were younger, and then backed off once he got a little taller than me. We have our battles, but growing up it was just competing.
“We had a bunch of good buddies in the neighborhood playing anything we could; football, baseball, wiffle ball, literally anything. Usually some tears came, some fights, but it helped us all out, and I think that’s the biggest part of our competitive spirit. I don’t want to lose to him, I’ll tell you that for sure.”
Though the siblings from Norwell, Mass. were chosen by Pacific Division rivals, they won’t have to worry about competing on the ice for a while. Teddy and Casey will both be playing for Boston College this fall. Both young men just need to make sure they give their mom a call now and then.
Stanley Cup Champ Re-signs With Kraken Farm Team

The player Coachella Valley Firebirds GM Troy Bodie calls “a leader our players look up to,” has signed a new two-year contract.
Mitchell Stephens was an unrestricted free agent after playing 69 games for the Firebirds last season (12 goals, 15 assists). Though just 29, he’s one of the team’s veterans.
“When the season’s over, you don’t miss the goals or the points,” Stephens said. “You miss every day grinding with (teammates) in the practices, the travel, the dinners on the road.”
In 2024-25, he split time between Coachella Valley (35 games) and the Kraken (28 games). Overall, the center has appeared in 123 NHL games. Originally drafted in the 2nd round by the Tampa Bay Lightning, he played 38 regular season games and seven in the playoffs during his rookie season of 2019-20. Since Tampa won it all in 2020, Stephens has his name engraved on the Stanley Cup.
This past season, the Firebirds surprisingly won two playoff rounds. “The maturity of our group grew this year,” Stephens said. “With being the youngest team in the league, that’s a big positive. You see the development of guys from the start of the year. We surprised a lot of people and surprised ourselves, too.
“These young guys coming up now, they’re good players. A lot of them are gonna play for Seattle or in the NHL soon. We made to the third round. That’s good experience for these guys.”
Kraken Radio Voices Getting Turn At Bat
It isn’t just Kraken GM Jason Botterill attempting to take “big swings” this offseason. A couple of Kraken radio broadcasters are going to get their cuts in, too.
The occasion is the Seattle All-Star Classic Celebrity Softball Game, Saturday (July 11) at 3:30 pm in Tacoma. The game, as well as a Home Run Derby, will take place at Cheney Stadium, home of the AAA Tacoma Rainiers.
Among the participants will be Kraken Audio Network voice Everett Fitzhugh, and KAN host Mike Benton. They’ll be teamed with several current and former Seattle Seahawks, as well as other local luminaries. Tickets, which benefit South Sound charities, can be purchased here.
