Reid Leads Parade Of Kraken Prospects Into ‘Summer Showcase’

The Seattle Kraken will have three Team USA representatives and two for Team Sweden at the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase.

“The camp,” explains NHL.com, “will feature practices and games between players from the United States, Canada, Finland and Sweden. It’s the first evaluation step for the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship.”

The Showcase will be held July 26-Aug. 1 at WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ontario. The full schedule is at the bottom of this story.

Team USA’s Trio Of Kraken Draftees

Chase Reid headlines the Team USA Kraken contingent. The defenseman was picked 7th overall in last week’s NHL Draft.

“Reid had four points (two goals, two assists) and averaged 20:06 of ice time in five games at the 2026 WJC. He had 48 points (18 goals, 30 assists) and 20 power-play points (eight goals, 12 assists) in 45 regular-season games with Sault Ste. Marie in the Ontario Hockey League this season.”

Reid has committed to play this fall at Michigan State University. Coincidentally, Spartans coach Adam Nightingale is also the Showcase coach for Team USA.

The Windsor location is just an hour’s drive from Reid’s hometown of Chesterfield Township, Mich. Oddly, you get to Windsor by driving SOUTH down I-94 from Chesterfield.

The other 2026 Kraken draft pick on Team USA is forward Casey Mutryn, taken in the 2nd round. Casey will be joined in Windsor by older brother Teddy Mutryn, a San Jose Sharks draft choice in 2025. The Mutryn boys hail from Norwell, Mass.

The third Seattle prospect also comes from the 2025 draft, 2nd round pick Blake Fiddler. The highly regarded defenseman from Frisco, Texas has played the last three seasons for the WHL Edmonton Oil Kings.

Team Sweden’s Pair Of Kraken Picks

Team Sweden boasts a 2026 Kraken draft choice, 6th round rearguard Ola Palme. DobberProspects.com says Palme is a, “Mobile, two-way left-shot defenseman who moves the puck cleanly and reads the game well beyond his draft slot. Palme is the kind of defenseman who gets undersold on draft boards because the appeal is in his reliability rather than highlight offense.”

Palme will be joined by forward Loke Krantz, taken by Seattle in the 7th round last year. “A large, strong winger beginning to gain his footing in the Swedish Junior leagues,” says Dobber Prospects, “a great swing by the Kraken in the 7th round.”

The remaining two teams in the Summer Showcase, Canada and Finland, are yet to release their rosters.
