The Seattle Kraken’s American Hockey League affiliate Coachella Valley Firebirds dropped game one of the pacific division finals 3-0 on Wednesday night to the visiting Colorado Eagles.
The Calder Cup playoffs are down to the final eight teams.
Colorado goalie Trent Miner has a pretty good trend going. He’s registered shut-outs in all three game-ones this postseason. It’s his fourth blanking of the playoffs overall.
The Firebirds pressed in the third period after falling behind two-nothing in the second, firing half of their twenty total shots in the final stanza. Miner was up to the task, preserving the margin established by Ronnie Attard and T.J. Hughes, who scored the earlier goals for the second-seeded Eagles.
Miner has a .958 save percentage over his seven starts. Netminder Nikke Kokko made 29 saves for the Firebirds. His save percentage for the postseason is .898.
Tye Felhaber potted an empty netter during the last ten seconds of regulation to provide the final margin.
The Firebirds host Game 2 on Friday before the best-of-five series finishes in Colorado.
