We provide you two quotes from today’s Seattle Kraken press release regarding the release of their 3rd jersey. These do a nice job of summing things up.
First of all, this was their sub-headline:
“The all-black jersey features glow-in-the-dark elements leaning into the bioluminescence found in the waters of the Pacific Northwest and proudly displays the tribal seal of the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe”
The second is from Kraken Vice President of Brand Aaron Wiggan.
“When we set out to design a third jersey, we wanted to create something a bit more menacing and intense,” he said.
That’s good, because that’s exactly what the team’s identity should be striving for; menacing and intense.
(At the bottom of the page, you’ll find a clip from our recent off-season conversation with Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube, describing exactly why the Florida Panthers have won two straight Stanley Cups)
Team identity is essential to success, and the more that identity involves commitment and physicality, the more likely a team will win.
“We drew our inspiration from the eerie shadows of the deep Pacific Northwest waters,” Wiggan continued. “The result is the franchise’s first all-black kit that includes an Ice Blue, glow-in-the-dark outline on the crest.”
To complete the look, players will wear black gloves, hockey pants and socks, with matte black helmets.
Kraken captain Jordan Eberle described the third jersey as “phenomenal”.
The club will wear the gear 12 times starting on November 1st at Climate Pledge Arena against the New York Rangers.
Here are all the dates:
