Canucks, Hughes and Rutherford

Canucks – Simmer’s 9 – Easter Monday Madness

Canucks 9

1) Where was everyone saying “Quinn Hughes was a bad choice as captain”, when Quinn Hughes was selected as captain? Wasn’t it glaringly obvious; done simply to try to keep him around. A ill-conceived management move that alienated important people in that room.

2) Highly unlikely that Francesco Aquilini gets rid of either Jim Rutherford or Patrik Allvin. They both have a year remaining on their contracts. Plus, he has too much respect for the president and the GM is the president’s mentee.

And as local TV host Rick Dhaliwal has pointed out; Allvin has apparently been travelling all over the globe scouting. The Canucks wouldn’t be footing the bill for that and then ousting him, would they?

3) I’m “not here for a rebuild”, and “what else am I going to do?” Those are the two lines that stand out from early Rutherford pressers. The first one is self-explanatory, but here we are with him in a rebuild …… for now. The second one was in reference to his age and his place in life. He turned 77 in February.

Sit around the house, play golf every day, or work for an NHL team somewhere. The latter is all he’s known and that’s why he took the Vancouver job in the first place.

I get that one. If physically capable, regardless of age, I can’t imagine not working. Keeps one young, active and  literally in this case, “in the game”.

4) Weren’t Hughes and Elias Pettersson buddies to the point that they hung out together when they missed training camp because of ongoing contract negotiations in the fall of 2021? Remember the photo of the two of them at a Michigan Wolverines football game. I doubt they were hanging out together just because they share the same agent. Does anyone have any tangible evidence that the relationship went south?

5) If given a choice, at this stage of their careers, would you rather have Conor Garland, now with the Columbus Blue Jackets, or Brock Boeser? (Garland is 350 days older.) And if at all, how much does it factor in that one’s a shi(f)t disturber and the other isn’t?

6) Trivia Time: Who holds the record for the most regular season games played for the Vancouver Canucks? (Answer at the bottom of page)

7) Story plug number one with link: Think things are messed up in Vancouver? The Seattle Kraken management group is facing a reckoning.

8) Story plug number two with link: Canucks PR BS.

9) Could Vancouver please change its goal song? It is so wimpy and lame. A rebuild would be the perfect time to introduce a song that has some balls.

Playoffs are coming up. Even sans Vancouver, it’s the greatest time of year. Enjoy the Hockey Action!!
