Two things Canucks and Kraken fans: Peace of mind and more importantly, quality health.
That’s why you need to stay on top of your routine cancer screenings.
I’ll never forget what former long-time NHL executive and then Ottawa Senators GM Bryan Murray said before he died in 2017. Something along the lines of “if only I’d gotten checked out when I was supposed to.”
By the time he was diagnosed with colon cancer, the one that killed him, along with two others in 2014, Murray believed it was possible he had cancer for up to a decade. He lived to be 74, meaning he went way past the time when he should have been getting check ups.
“Despite that, however, Murray is now taking the opportunity to try to help others. During his interview with (Michael) Farber, a cancer survivor himself, Murray advocated for men to get a colonoscopy. Murray painfully admitted that it could have possibly saved him.”
That, from a CBS article by Chris Peters after Murray had been diagnosed with, at that point, an incurable disease.
So, from a presently healthy state, knock on cranium, and having just completed a follow-up colonoscopy on Tuesday, I say this to all of my cohorts, hockey staffers of all kinds, and of course to all of you fans: GET CHECKED OUT!
This reminder comes in Bryan’s memory, a man with endless friends in hockey, and to me, always a very nice man and an excellent, honest interview.
Don’t put it off. Yes, we’re busy, but you and your family want and deserve to have you around. This applies to men and women.
Screening for colorectal cancer is first suggested for the ages between 45 and 50. Don’t put it off.
And Enjoy the Hockey Action!!
