Kings 2, Canucks 1 — Overtime
There were three goals disallowed via video review in the first six minutes of the first period.
The first involved Elias Pettersson trying to jam a puck past Kings goalie Anton Forsberg. It appeared to go in just inside the post, but upon review, by a whisker, the puck didn’t completely cross the goal line.
Subsequently, both the Kings and then the Canucks had goals reversed based on missed offside calls. The were pretty obvious. So the clubs skated scoreless until the venerable Slovenian Anze Kopitar opened the scoring for LA at 17:19. He wristed a puck top shelf, glove side over Kevin Lankinen.
Both teams struggled with the man advantage, but a power play did play a factor in the Canucks tying goal in the second period. Just as his penalty ended, Evander Kane came out of Vancouver’s penalty box, took a pass from Drew O’Connor up the middle, and skated in to beat Forsberg with a wicked wrister at 2:52 of the second period.
Through forty minutes, both teams had 13 shots on goal, both teams were 0-for-3 on the power play.
Vancouver had its best overall period in the third, but to no avail.
The game went to overtime and ended in chaos as Adrian Kempe scored through a scramble with 62-seconds remaining.
The Canucks record moves to 10-13-and-3.
