Golden Knights at Kraken fisticuffs
Likely the most entertaining part of Tuesday night for Kraken fans during their club’s 6-2 loss were the 3rd period tilts between veterans Mark Stone of Vegas and Brandon Montour of Seattle, followed a little later by Ryan Winterton of the Kraken and Marc Gatcomb of the Golden Knights.
Montour later explained that he was trying to get under Stone’s skin, taunting him for not immediately coming to the defense of teammate Victor Olofsson who had been hit from behind by Kraken Ben Meyers at 8:03 of the 3rd period.
Meyers received a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct.
Golden Knight staffers in the press box thought Montour was actually taunting Olofsson for faking injury. Other folks in the press box pondered whether the rivalry and animosity between the two dated back to the 2023 Stanley Cup Final, won by Stone’s Golden Knights over Montour’s Florida Panthers in five games.
Montour postgame:
Ultimately it was pretty standard retribution in terms of the Winterton vs. Gatcomb fight. The latter had knocked Kraken defenseman Ryan Lindgren out of the game with an illegal hit just 15-seconds into the match. Even though Lindgren managed to finish the rest of the 1st period, that was the end of his night.
There was no update postgame from Seattle head coach Lane Lambert.
There were plenty of other melees and scrums Tuesday night, setting the stage for some rivalry nastiness with three head-to-head Pacific Division games between the two clubs forthcoming.
