Kraken’s AHL Firebirds Lose Pivotal Game 2-1

The Kraken’s American Hockey League farm club in Coachella Valley, California, hosting the LA Kings AHL Ontario (California) Reign, lost to their visitors 2-1 in game-3 of their western conference, best of five, second round series on Wednesday night.

The Reign scored two unanswered goals eighty seconds apart in the third period for the win and went ahead 2-1 in the Calder Cup playoff series.

Logan Brown scored the game winner at the 7:16 mark, riding momentum from Aatu Jämsen’s tying goal at 5:56.

The Firebirds lone goal came from Jani Nyman at 16:50 of the first period on an assist to fellow Kraken prospect Jagger Firkus.

The game was evenly matched, with Coachella Valley outshooting Ontario 28-24 for the night. The slight edge was due to the Kraken farm club getting the only two power plays in the match. They failed to click both times, once in the second period and once late in the third.

Nikke Kokko took the loss in net while making 22 saves.

Game-4 is scheduled for Thursday night, once again at Acrisure Arena in the valley.
