The Kraken played hard and created chances. The Kraken even scored a power play goal.
The Kraken lost to the NHL’s best team, the Colorado Avalanche.
There are no moral victories.
“I think we played hard, like we have been, we just have to find a way to get over the finish line,” Seattle head coach Lane Lambert said postgame.
His media session lasted just 66-seconds. The boss man was particularly frustrated by a mistake leading to the Avalanche’s game winning power play goal.
Ben Meyers went for a skate, puck chasing, vacating his portion of the penalty kill diamond.
The result was an unobstructed, easy game winning goal off a rebound for Brock Nelson at 8:25 of the 3rd period. That put the Avalanche up 4-3.
The NHL’s leading scorer Nathan MacKinnon added an empty-netter for his second goal and third point of the night. He has 58 on the season.
Both goaltenders made sterling saves at each end; Philipp Grubauer for Seattle and Mackenzie Blackwood for Colorado. The latter made a couple of game saving stops in the 3rd period for the visitors and made 34 total. “Grubi” stopped 34 of 38 shots on goal.
The Avalanche won for the third game in a row, stretching their NHL leading point total to 55 in the standings. The Kraken have lost nine of their last ten matches and dropped seven points out of the playoff race.
