Kraken Need Momentum Off Their 3-2 OT Win

The Kraken desperately needed some joy joy and they got it with their late 3-2 overtime win over the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night at Climate Pledge Arena.

With Seattle on the power play and with the goalie pulled for yet another attacker, center Matty Beniers scored to tie the game 2-2 during a 6-on-4 advantage with just 25-seconds remaining in regulation.

Kraken defenseman Vince Dunn followed that up with a power play one-timer at 1:21 of overtime to win it. His slapper beat Kings goalie Anton Forsberg high glove-side.

The victory snapped the Kraken’s six-game winless streak; a shoot-out loss to the New York Islanders back on November 23rd followed by five losses in regulation.

Two of those defeats were to the Edmonton Oilers. In one of them, a 9-4 blow-out on December 4th, Seattle goalie Joey Daccord was shelled, giving up five goals on nine shots while lasting just under 26-minutes before being replaced by Philipp Grubauer. Daccord didn’t look completely himself in the next outing either, a 4-3 loss to the Red Wings that saw him post a 84% save percentage.

Against the Kings, Daccord bounced back nicely.

Now, he and his Kraken teammates need to establish a little momentum. They travel to Salt Lake City for a game on Friday night against the Utah Mammoth, a team Seattle is trailing in the standings by just one point. Both are barely outside of the playoffs.

Meanwhile, the Kraken have at least two games in-hand on all of the Western Conference teams they are chasing for a postseason wild card spot. They have a whopping four games in-hand on the Mammoth. Seattle has played 28 games, the fewest in the National Hockey League.

NOTE: In the game against the Kings, the dads defeated the moms. The fathers of the Kraken players were visiting at the start of their group trip while the Kings had their mothers in attendance as their time with the team wraps up.
