Blue Jackets Drop Kraken In A Shoot-Out 2-1

Blue Jackets 2, Kraken 1 — Shoot-out

Seattle’s fourth line opened the scoring late in the first period when Ryan Winterton scored the second goal of his young NHL career. It came from the slot on a one-timer off a beautiful drop pass from Ben Meyers.

The first period was relatively even and penalty-free. The second period was just the opposite. While still competitive, the pace became a slog with a rash of penalties.

Ultimately, with Kraken Eeli Tolvanen and Ryan Lindgren in the penalty box 54-seconds apart for tripping and cross checking respectively, the Blue Jackets were able to tie the game on a 5-on-3 advantage. Columbus’s Adam Fantilli ripped home a one-timer with Seattle goalie Matt Murray almost making a miraculous glove safe.

The 2nd period ended with the game tied 1-1. The 3rd period saw Columbus gain most of the opportunities. Murray then stood tall through regulation and overtime.

In the shoot-out that ensued, the Blue Jackets prevailed. Kirill Marchenko and Charlie Coyle’s goals overcame the one tally by Seattle’s Tolvanen.

Columbus outshot Seattle 34-23 for the game. The Kraken continue a short homestand against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday and the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.
