The Seattle Torrent set records for attendance at a women’s hockey game on Friday when they hosted the Minnesota Frost.
16,014 fans turned up at Climate Pledge Arena for the club’s inaugural regular season home game. It set a new single game attendance record for women’s hockey in the United States; pro or collegiate.
The next step to keep that momentum and interest going and growing is to win a hockey game or two. The Torrent’s next opportunity will be on Wednesday evening when they host the New York Sirens. It’s the second game of a five-game homestand, spread out over 25 days.
Keep in mind, each Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) team plays just 30 regular season games with the schedule wrapping up in late April.
The Torrent have one 4-3 overtime loss to their credit, worth one point in the standings. That came in Vancouver against the Goldeneyes back on November 21st in front of a sell-out crowd of 14,958 at Pacific Coliseum.
Teams get three points in the standings for a regulation win. The Sirens are tied for first place in the league with the Boston Fleet, both clubs with a 2-and-0 record and six points.
