A bonus to any Seattle Kraken victory over Toronto is watching Maple Leafs Nation lose its collective mind. Especially the manner of Seattle’s 5-4 win on Oct. 28. The Leafs rallied from two goals down, tied the game on an Auston Matthews goal at 18:30, only to have Kraken defenseman Brandon Montour score the dagger at 19:22.
No one does over-the-top Maple Leafs reactions quite as entertainingly as Steve Dangle (real name Steve Glynn – why would he want to change that?). A wildly successful hockey podcaster, he’s mastered the mix of performance art and genuine outrage. That’s why he has 266,000 subscribers.
Dangle saved* the lion’s share of his vitriol, understandably, for Sergei Bobrovsky. A check of postgame Toronto media indicates Steve was far from alone. Bobrovsky, the goalie the Leafs paid $21 million over three years for in the offseason, allowed five Kraken goals on 17 shots.
(* See what I did there?)
Were Last Two Kraken Goals Stoppable?
Leafs Nation was especially perturbed by the last two Seattle goals, even though both were perfectly placed lasers. Montour from 37 feet found a space underneath Bobrovsky’s armpit, and Ryker Evans’ 35-foot rocket landed inside the elbow where the right post meets the crossbar. It’s also fair to note that both shots were unscreened from the faceoff dots.
Dangle’s measured (?) analysis: “The first goal (by Berkly Catton) bounces off the crossbar, hits him in the bum, and goes in. All right, fine. Another one (by Josh Mahura) goes in. All right, fine. Third one (by Chandler Stephenson) goes off a defenseman’s skate. Okay, fine. Fourth one (by Evans), Yuck! Fifth one?! Sergei Bobrovsky cost the Toronto Maple Leafs two points tonight.”
Kraken Media Never Go ‘Full Dangle’

Seattle coach Lane Lambert and forward Bobby McMann, both former Leafs, can attest that Kraken media is a walk in a Skagit Valley tulip field compared to Toronto counterparts. As proof, we’ve collected more of Dangle’s most outrageous – and hilarious – takes on Bobrovsky. You can see his full rant here.
For background, Montour and Bobrovsky were Stanley Cup-winning teammates on the Florida Panthers.
- “Make a save! Make a save! Make a save! Make a save! Sorry, let me be greedy. Make two saves. Oh my God!”
- “You need a save. And he gave them 12! Out of 17! The big ticket goalie stunk. Stunk and has stunk.”
- “You are paid more than nearly anyone on earth to do that job. (Kraken goal) number four has to be stopped. Number five has to be stopped. If you can’t do that, then you’re not worth the money.”
- “The fifth goal, you talk about needing a save at a key moment, and that one from a former teammate goes through you? Oh my God!”
- “You blew it, dude. They are called saves because you are saving the team.”
- “They’re not called nice-to-haves! They’re not called helpfuls! They’re not called usefuls!”
- “Are you an inside agent? You still working for Florida? You getting a paycheck from the Florida Panthers?”
Dangle had some bitterness left over to direct at Lambert, associate coach in Toronto for the 2024-25 season.
- “Lambert is definitely the head coach of the Seattle Kraken team. He’s trying as hard as he can to make a violent amount of nothing happen.”
- “If the Seattle Kraken continue winning games, I think it might legitimately be bad for hockey.”
“A violent amount of nothing.” That’s brilliant. Do you think Mr. Dangle would mind if I stole that?
