Kraken Farm Livin’
I forgot just how affordable it is to see future NHLers playing hockey in the 2nd best league in the world. That would be with the Kraken’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds.
22 bucks! If you live in the Springs or the Desert, you have access to something special. It’s not the NHL, but take it from someone who saw a lot of great hockey at the minor league levels over the decades, it’s a worthy endeavor to explore the up-can-comers.
Jacob Melanson, Oscar Fisker-Molgaard, John Hayden, and at least a half-dozen more Firebirds played for various amounts of time with the Kraken last season.
The AHL club announced that single game tickets were available as of this past weekend, and the prices start at 22-bucks. I don’t work for the teams, don’t promote them outside of charity and humanitarian work, but I know a good deal when I see it.
Goalie Ink
Undrafted netminder Logan Terness, from just up the road in Burnaby, BC, signed a one-year contract with the Firebirds.
The 23-year-old spent the majority of his rookie, 2025-26 campaign with the ECHL’s Kansas City Mavericks. He went 1-0-1 with the Firebirds after joining the club via a professional tryout agreement (PTO) in April. The Burnsville, Minnesota native’s ECHL numbers included a 21-3-0 record, a 2.26 goals-against average, and a .913 save percentage in 24 regular-season appearances with the Mavericks, a club that reached the Kelly Cup Final.
By the way, what is it with Burnsville? A hockey hotbed outside of Minneapolis/St. Paul, that’s what. Current Kraken D-man Ryan Lindgren is from the bedroom community, as is Canucks forward Brock Boeser.
D Ink
Last week, the Kraken affiliate re-signed lefty defenseman Charlie Wright to a one-year deal. Thunderbirds and Silvertips fans might recognize his name from his five seasons with the Saskatoon Blades in the Western Hockey League.
It’ll be the 22-year-old’s 3rd season with the club after playing in 46 regular season games and six Calder Cup Playoff matches last season. He then jumped down and helped the ECHL Mavericks reach the Kelly Cup Final.
A defensive stalwart, Wright has just one goal and five assists over 67 AHL games.
