Kraken goal celebration

Kraken: It Was An Ugly NHL Night

The Seattle Kraken are scoreboard watching at this point; they have no choice. With just a handful of games remaining in the season and four teams to hop over in the standings to reach the 2nd wild card spot, the Kraken need help.

Wednesday night they didn’t get any. In fact, late game heroics by two of the teams they’re chasing resulted in two points for those LA Kings and the San Jose Sharks.

The Kings beat the St. Louis Blues in overtime 2-1 on a Trevor Moore rush to the net, and the Sharks scored twice in the final 99 seconds of regulation to beat the Anaheim Ducks 4-3. Young superstar Macklin Celebrini scored his 40th goal of the season with an extra attacker on the ice to tie it, before former Kraken Alex Wennberg ripped home the game winner at even strength with 31-seconds remaining.

Celebrini finished with a four-point night.

Seattle fans would like to see more images like the one above; their team celebrating a goal and a victory. It’s been rare since the Winter Olympic break. They definitely weren’t celebrating in their homes on Wednesday.

Seattle starts a little two-game home stint on Thursday night against the Utah Mammoth, the conference’s first wild card team with 82 points. The Kings are in the 2nd spot with 78 points, followed by the outsiders; the Sharks and Nashville Predators at 77 points, the Winnipeg Jets at 76, and the Kraken at 75.

Seattle hosts the 2nd worst team in the league based on point total, the Chicago Blackhawks, on Saturday.

The club has two choices: Win out and take of business by themselves, or win a handful and hope for no more ugly nights.
