We picked FanDuel for no particular reason, maybe because they recently did a little update.
Right now the Vancouver Canucks are plus-5,500 to win the Lord Stanley’s chalice. Plunk down 100 bucks, win $5,500. That’s right, it takes an initial wager of $100 to reach that pay-out.
You’re not allowed to bet $1,000 to win $55,000 on this site. I imagine that’s the case with all of them. Someone could put $1,000 down on the top eight teams and come away at least breaking even or walking away with a tidy profit.
The Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers, as favourites, would both pot you $750. The Vegas Golden Knights and Edmonton Oilers are plus-850 and the Dallas Stars are plus $900. Everyone else in the NHL is plus-1,000 or more.
The bottom feeders?
Vancouver’s neighbours down the road, the Seattle Kraken, are among the four teams at the bottom. They join the Pittsburgh Penguins, the San Jose Sharks and the Chicago Blackhawks all going for +10,000.
The most likely to pull off a miracle out of that group would be the Kraken, if Joey Daccord stood on his head on a nightly basis among other things.
Naturally it’s fun to speculate; that’s what this business is all about.
By the way, this is a US wagering site. Canucks fans would have to find the equivalent, or something close to it, north of the border.
