Canucks Draft
With the 47th-overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft the Vancouver Canucks chose London Knights goalie Alexei Medvedev. The 6-foot-3, 180-pounder backstopped the Knights to an Ontario Hockey League and Memorial Cup championship this spring.
The Russian was born in St. Petersburg and grew up playing youth hockey there. He doesn’t turn 18 until September 10th. His rookie season in the OHL saw 34 games played with a goals against average of 2.79 and a save percentage of .912.
Considering a bit of uncertainty behind or alongside Kevin Lankinen in Vancouver this summer, it’s never a bad idea to start the development of the next generation of netminders. The Canucks also have 20-year-old Ty Young and 22-year-old Aku Koskenvuo under contract and in the pipeline.
Scouts consider Medvedev strong, athletic, and solid at tracking pucks through traffic.
With the top pick in the 3rd-round Vancouver took center Kieren Dervin at 65th-overall. It was originally a San Jose Sharks selection that changed hands three different times.
Dervin bounced between the US and Canada in his earlier teenage years playing hockey, ending up back in Ontario with the St. Andrews College private school and then briefly with Kingston in the OHL.
A strong 6-foot-3, 185-pound pivot, Dervin plans to play college hockey at Penn State.
