Kraken Trade For Young Scoring Winger Samoskevich

The Seattle Kraken announced a trade on Sunday morning, acquiring 23-year-old right winger Mackie Samoskevich from the Florida Panthers for Seattle’s 24th-overall pick in next week’s NHL Draft. It was the Kraken’s second selection in the 1st-round, one that was previously acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Panthers also received a conditional 2027 2nd-round pick.

Samoskevich already has a Stanley Cup title under his young belt, having played 72 regular season games and four playoff matches en route to the 2025 championship in his first full NHL campaign.

Last season he posted a career high 32 points in 77 games. Samoskevich was selected 24th-overall by the Panthers out of the University of Michigan in the 2021 NHL Draft.

“Mackie is a talented young player who we are excited to bring into the fold,” Seattle GM Jason Botterill said in a statement. “He has speed, skill and scoring ability. A Stanley Cup champion with the Panthers in 2025, Mackie’s a player who can contribute offensively and add a spark to our lineup.”

The Kraken need all the help they can get in the scoring department. They finished 28th in scoring in the NHL last season.

Samoskevich hails from Newtown, Connecticut. He played for Team USA in the 2022 World Junior Championship. The Americans finished 5th.
