Forget looking ahead to the games the Seattle Kraken should or shouldn’t win down the stretch. Other than head-to-head against the Vancouver Canucks, that concept has been futile. At this point it’s the cliché “one game at a time”.
Tuesday night at Climate Pledge Arena the 2nd-wild-card-spot Kraken host one of the teams hot on their heels, the Nashville Predators. “Hot” being a relative term in this race; the Predators are 4-4-and-2 in their last ten games while Seattle is 5-and-5. Nashville is three points out.
The two teams between them, the 9th place San Jose Sharks, one point back entering action on Tuesday, lost to the Sabres in Buffalo Tuesday night and are now 2-5-and-3 in their last ten. Also lukewarm, the 10th place LA Kings, sporting a recent 3-6-and-1 mark.
But stop the presses. The Kings lost in OT to the Bruins in Boston earlier on Tuesday night and with the point are now tied with Seattle with 67 points. The Kraken have played two less games.
One gets the picture. It’s not so much survival of the fittest; it’s a battle of attrition between teams trying to figure out how bad they want it.
All the mediocrity aside, this Kraken-Predators tilt is a biggee. With a regulation win, Seattle would move five points ahead of Nashville with a game in hand and nineteen games to play.
