The Kraken simply can’t beat the next-to-last worst team points-wise in the NHL. Oh sorry, with their 3-2 win over Seattle at Climate Pledge Arena on Wednesday night, the St. Louis Blues hopped over the New York Rangers and now only have the third worst point total in the league.
Not so long ago, the Blues beat the Kraken 5-1 back on February 26th in St. Louis, the second of back-to-back losses for Seattle coming out of the Winter Olympic break.
This time the home team jumped out early. Jaden Schwartz banged home a rebound just 31-seconds into the game against Blues goalie Joel Hofer. Little did the Kraken know how difficult it would be to make that happen enough times to win. Hofer was outstanding, particularly in the third period when Seattle was attempting a comeback after falling behind 3-1.
After Schwartz opened the scoring, St. Louis tallied the next three: Logan Mailloux in the first period, Dylan Holloway in the 2nd period, and Robert Thomas in the third. Oddly enough, Thomas has been the subject of trade rumors involving Seattle.
At any rate, the Kraken could only solve Hofer once more, with Vince Dunn blasting home a shot from the slot with six-and-a-half minutes remaining in regulation. A late power play on top of a pulled goalie extra attacker fell short.
Despite Seattle falling to 2-and-3 since returning to action, the club remains in the final Western Conference playoff position. They’re three points ahead of their closest pursuers, the San Jose Sharks, a team that has two games in hand.
