Torrent Come Clean About Dedicated Support Staff

During their expansion season, not all noteworthy performances by the Seattle Torrent belonged to the players wearing the uniforms. Some belonged to the staff cleaning them, and staff unloading them off buses on road trips.

Admiring Torrent coach Steve O’Rourke made sure off-ice support teams got the recognition they deserved. Take it away, coach.

“As challenging as this (last-place) finish is, we see lots of hope and lots of amazing things that are set in place already. It starts with (GM) Megan (Turner), having that mentality of everyone pitches in. Then it filters down to everyone, that we solve problems with a smile every day.”

Get A Load Of This

“The washers and dryers didn’t work. You’re like, ‘Okay, we’re finally in our new space.’ You’re looking at these nice shiny machines in our room that weren’t hooked up yet. And we had issues once they did get (hooked up).

“People won’t believe it. Our equipment staff showed up every day with a smile on their face. They were taking our laundry home every day. Imagine that. Imagine taking workout gear, on-ice gear and washing it in your own washing machine every day. People don’t know about that. Doing that every day for two months.”

Torrent Staff Worked Into Wee Hours

“Our athletic therapists, at two in the morning, (were) unloading buses. The players have earned the right not to touch their gear. This isn’t NCAA. This isn’t U-18 stuff. They’ve earned the right to get off a bus and go into a hotel.

“And so our staff had to do that. Our staff has pitched in when we’re leaving airports, to make sure that the players are ready. It’s just amazing how everyone has just done that every day.”
